What is an EICR?
What is an EICR? An electrical installation condition report (EICR) is an official document that is produced following an assessment of an electrical installation. It must be carried out by a competent electrician or electrical contractor.

Why is it important? Electrical installations are prone to wear and tear and an EICR can check if there are any faults that cant be seen during a visual inspection.

Why do I need one? You cannot see electricity and, in many cases, you cannot view the conduits or cables that use electricity. Cables are often hidden inside walls, and consumer units are located in cupboards, where they are not immediately visible. It is unsurprising that we often forget to check the condition of our electrical installations for damage or signs of wear and tear. Faulty and old wiring is one of the main causes of electrical fires in the home. You can reduce the risk of a fire by regularly checking your cables, switches and sockets, to see that they are in good condition.
How often should I get my electrics tested?
In a normal house you should have them tested every 10 years. In a rental property your should have an electrical inspection every 5 years or on change of occupancy. This is now a legal requirement as of 1st June 2020. A property should also ideally be tested before being sold so that the buyers know the condition of the electrics.

Outdoor sockets supplied and fitted from £80. To qualify for this price the outdoor socket must be fitted back to back to an existing socket inside.
